Frequently asked questions
What is Prism?
Prism is a new cloud based CNC programming solution that will enhance your machining workflow. Prism will be used on the shop floor and will replace the manual machine programming of today. Prism runs on a iPad and has an intuitive touch-based programming interface and will reduce programming time from hours to minutes. Prism also includes ready-made machining strategies called ‘recipes’ from world-class tool suppliers that can be consumed during programming. By using recipes, the quality of your machining process will be significantly improved and programming time will be even further reduced. Anyone with machining knowledge can use Prism with zero training.
How does Prism works?
The Prism solution consists of a web application and an iPad application. In the web application, you prepare work orders and assign them to machines on the shop floor. In the iPad application, you pick a work order and start programming by selecting features directly on a 3D model. With a few clicks, you will be able to finalize your programming and then directly in the Prism iPad app post process your Prism program to generate machine code (G-code). The machine program can then be wirelessly transferred to the machine through the Prism connectivity solution.
How do I get access to Prism?
The Prism iPad application will be available for download in the Apple App Store. To be able to use Prism, you need to create an account by signing up on the Prism web page. Just select a subscription plan, register and log into Prism’s web application. Then you are ready to go.
What kind of machines does Prism support?
Initially, Prism will support 3-axis milling machines and programming of prismatic parts. However, Prism will continue to be developed to support various machine types. In the near future, Prism will support programming of turning and 4-axis machines.
Do I need experience from 3D Software to use Prism?
No, Prism does not require any experience of using CAD or CAM Software. Prism runs on an iPad and is designed to be extremely user friendly and intuitive and can be used with zero training.
Do I need to have my own iPad to use Prism?
Yes. Prism is an iPad app that is sold separately. The initial release is optimized for the 9.7-inch iPad, but works for all iPads from generation 6, and iOS 11, and above.
What are the iPad requirements for Prism?
Prism is currently only available for iPad. The application is optimized for 9.7" Gen 6 iPads and above, running iOS 11 and above.
When will Prism be launched?
Prism will have a controlled release plan and will initially be released for a limited number of customers. The exact date for open release will be communicated as soon as possible. Sign up for the Prism waiting list to get info about the Prism launch.Join the Waiting list
Recipes and Cookbooks
What is a Recipe?
A recipe is packaged machining strategy from tool suppliers, and they exist in order to optimize your tool usage and your machining process. By using recipes you will automatically get cutting methods and cutting data settings during programming. This reduces programming time and increases the quality of your operations. You will be able to choose recipes from three categories: Productivity, Tool life and Surface quality. This means that you can program your machine to operate as quickly as possible, maximize tool life, or to achieve the highest possible surface quality. Recipes have been designed so that they can be consumed regardless of tool brand.
What is a Cookbook?
A cookbook is a collection of recipes provided by world-class tool suppliers. You will have several cookbooks to choose from inside Prism and the number of cookbooks available for you will be constantly increasing. Additional tool suppliers will soon be able to offer their cookbooks inside Prism. You can subscribe to all available cookbooks inside the Prism application.
How do I use Recipes?
Recipes are available directly inside Prism’s programming interface. Once you’ve selected the tool you want to use for a machining operation, the applicable recipes become available to choose from. Simply choose a recipe, and cutting methods, parameters and data will automatically be added to the programming flow.
What happens when I’ve signed up for the waiting list?
